Report from CNN
Disgraceful end to what was once a miraculous career. If you've ever read his autobiography, you'll know this is one driven, committed, pain-in-the-ass, SOB. I'm not surprised he took to drugs, nor that he has given his whole life to trying to cover that up too.
But going on Oprah to confess just makes it so much worse. It's a completely stage-managed event, and lacks the gravitas and solemnity necessary to allow him to fully redeem his sins. It would have been far better to call a press conference, read out a statement and walk away.
PR folks will probably disagree with me on many levels, but I think that would be the only way he could have walked away with any shred of dignity left.
I also wonder how much he was paid to do this on Oprah.
